KINSMEN LOTTO for the ALBERTA CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

The 2011 Lottery was successful and allowed the Stampede City Kinsmen thru their Kinsmen Care Foundation to increase the overall donation to the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation since the start of the Lottery in 1993 to $23,968,288.85 making us the largest single donor to the Alberta Children's Hospital.

Monies currently being generated by the annual Lottery are being allocated to the purchase of a Next Generation DNA Sequencer which has the power to read genetic code tens of thousands times faster than current technology - to help find answers for the 70% of genetics patients at the ACH who remain undiagnosed.

Visit the website at www.homelotto.com to see if you are a big winner, especially if you have moved since purchasing your ticket. In reality, we are all winners - especially the children. On behalf of the Kinsmen Care Foundation, the Children and Alberta Children's Hospital, we thank you, the public, for your loyal support both past and present of our Lottery.

PORTRAITS OF HONOUR

In 2009, Kin Canada adopted a national project so named "Portraits of Honour" which is a 10ft.x 40ft mural depicting the faces of our fallen troops in the Afghanistan theatre. The mural was painted by Kin Life Member Dave Sopha, a former Navy service man, who was moved by the newspaper front page showing the faces of the 100 fallen Canadian service men and women and at that time felt that these courageous men & women of the Canadian Forces should have a lasting memorial and not just be forgotten. It has since risen to 158 service men & women and will also include two non-military faces, that of Calgary Herald reporter Michelle Lang and Canadian Diplomat Glyn Berry who also lost their lives in their line of duty in Afghanistan.

Since its inception as a National Kin project, our KCSC member Kin Sean Libin has been the National Operations Officer responsible for the scheduling of the tour stops across Canada visiting many of the home towns and cities of the fallen soldiers. The Portraits of Honour tour was displayed November 11th,2011 on Parliament Hill and will complete its tour later this month in Cambridge Ontario, its birthplace.

In 2010 the Stampede City Kinsmen & Kinettes along with the Kinsmen & Kinettes of Calgary joined forces to present the Portraits Of Honour Tour and Gala dinner held in mid September 2011, attended by many of our armed forces personnel, the families of some of the fallen soldiers and heralded by the guest speaker General [Ret.] Rick Hillier, former Chief of Defence Staff - Canadian Forces.

CAMP URSA [Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency]

In October, 14 Stampede City Kinsmen went to work at the camp moving a great amount of rock and placing them in such manner to complete the waterfall and create pool for the wilderness camp. This was one of a number of "hands on" projects that the Club has performed for the agency during the past couple of years.
